Palikir, Pohnpei (Department of Foreign Affairs): On December 9, 2016, a signing of a handover certificate took place at the President’s conference room between Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the FSM, T.H. Lorin Robert and H.E. Li Jie of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. The monetary assistance of $800,000 will be used to subsidize the newly launched Air Niuguni that provides service between Papua New Guinea and FSM.   
 
In a short remark, Ambassador Li Jie stated that the Chinese Government is happy to assist the FSM in its transportation development efforts. He further stated that the assistance will not only improve FSM’s transportation development but will certainly contribute to the FSM’s economy and nation building effort.  
 
Secretary Lorin Robert reciprocated the remark by thanking Ambassador Li and the Chinese Government on behalf of President Christian and Vice President George for the generous assistance. He concluded by assuring Ambassador Li that the assistance will be put to its intended purposes and that it will certainly enhance the good working relations between FSM and China.

FSM Embassy Celebrates the 30th National Day in Beijing

November 18, 2016 (FSM Embassy, Beijing)  Ambassador Carlson D. Apis hosted a celebration in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the FSM National Day at the Renaissance Capital Hotel in Beijing.  The celebration brought together representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Pacific Community in Beijing and other private sector representatives.

November 12, 2016 (FSM Embassy, Beijing)  At the invitation of the International Eco-tech Cooperation Working Committee of the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (CNCPEC), Ambassador Carlson D. Apis participated in the First Chinese Maritime Silk Road - International Health Industry Forum and Healthy Cities Construction and Enablement Conference in Lingshui, Hainan from 12 to 13 November 2013.  The Conference brought together leaders of relevant state ministries and commissions, leaders of Hainan Province and Lingshui County, representatives of international organizations, Diplomatic Envoys along the maritime Silk Road, health experts, and business leaders to discuss cross boundary cooperation in the trade of agricultural products to promote Health Industries and Healthy Cities.
 
The FSM, like other international representatives that attended, gave presentations on healthy agriculture products that are exportable with the support of interested international partners who are willing to invest.  Ambassador Apis also touched on the FSM’s small rainforests and marine life which are very rich in bio-diversity and medicinal plants and trees.  This offers an opportunity for win-win cooperation among interested investors and the owners of the traditional knowledge and medicine.
 
The conference also gave Ambassador Apis the opportunity to promote the FSM as a tourism and foreign investment destination.  The Ambassador was able to meet with interested investors and will be sharing their information with relevant representatives of Government Offices and Chambers of Commerce in the FSM.
